Internship
Each year, NEW Counseling accepts bachelor’s and master’s level mass communication, marketing and technology focused interns to participate in our internship program that is a fluid mix of challenge, growth and reward.
NEW tries to create an internship experience that is reciprocal and one in which interns are able to focus on activities and tasks that are meaningful to them, while also filling a need within the practice.
The internship is tailored to each intern and has a strong focus on identifying their specific talents, gifts and style and preparing them to bring their whole self to their current and future work and life experiences.
Overview
The internship is geared towards both bachelor’s and master’s level students studying communications, marketing, or a related field with an interest in a variety of areas including social media, marketing, branding, networking & outreach.
The NEW Communications, Marketing & Outreach intern may be involved in many tasks, including identifying marketing needs, designing communications material for clients and stakeholders and working with team members to evaluate current outreach efforts.
The internship has an expectation of a 12-15 hours per week commitment minimum and combines both administrative and creative communications and marketing tasks.
Ideal candidates will be self directed, critical thinking and self reflective with strong written and verbal communication as well as research skills.
Ideal candidates will as well have either passion or strong desire for working with, supporting and advocating for oppressed and marginalized individuals and communities.
Ideal candidates are able to work effectively both individually and on a team and have a desire and willingness to learn.
The FOCUS
The internship is focused on development of valuable skills and knowledge with regards to current communication, marketing, and social media trends that will prepare you to enter the work environment.
The internship has three main ares of focus: Policy, Training & Staff Development, Digital & General Marketing & Communications
Digital & General Marketing focus includes:
Developing social media and print outreach marketing materials
Developing marketing campaigns
Assisting in social media planning and engagement
Researching and developing new ideas for Web/social media content
Monitoring social media analytics and providing reports of growth and other
activities
Researching online trends in digital marketing and providing suggestions for NEW’s Web/social media content and performance
Researching consumer opinions and marketing strategies and proposing adjustments to current strategies accordingly
Collecting quantitative and qualitative data from marketing campaigns, social media platforms
Brainstorming and researching marketing strategies and market trends
Communications focus includes:
Market research
Developing audio visual marketing materials
Developing tools and methods for collecting data such as surveys, opinion polls or questionnaires
Assisting with execution of plans for NEW outreach and marketing events
Assisting in writing communications including letters, newsletters, social media, web content, invitations, and reports
Communications & Marketing Policy, Training & Staff Development focus includes:
Develop policy related to marketing and technology best practices for NEW Counseling
Develop marketing training content for NEW clinical team
Provide marketing training to NEW clinical team
Develop customer service and customer satisfaction policies and protocol
OPPORTUNITIES BEYOND INTERNSHIP
Upon successful completion of internship, NEW interns will potentially be invited to continue on with NEW. In addition, NEW deliberately exposes interns to a variety of professionals within the field of communications & marketing to provide interns with ideas regarding options beyond graduation.
