Black Lives Matter
Statement
Nashville Emotional Wellness Counseling stands in support of the Black Lives Matter movement, in solidarity and mourning with the countless victims of police brutality and their families, and in awe of the organizers and protesters affecting systemic change in towns and cities across the country.
As a Black-owned business entirely staffed by women of color, we see our role in this crisis as critical: we recognize the fact that this is not a moment, but a movement built upon centuries of racial oppression that have caused generational trauma in our Black and marginalized communities.
As an organization, we are NOT colorblind.
We are committed to honoring the lived experiences of each individual that comes to us for therapy, and we understand that trauma is amplified by the intersection of race with womanhood, LGBTQ+ identity, disability status, and certain religious identities.
We are committed to making NEW a space where our community can openly engage in those tough conversations that are essential to carrying on the momentum of this movement.
For Black and marginalized communities in the United States, mental health care is essential yet under-accessed due to systemic barriers and underrepresentation in the counseling field.
We are committed to providing affordable access to quality therapy services for these communities in Nashville and surrounding areas. We are committed to working to build a base of resources for our clients and the wider community on the intersection of racial trauma and mental health.
We vehemently denounce all forms of racism and are dedicated to being advocates for our clients whose trauma has been caused by racial discrimination and systems of racial opression.
Black lives have always and will always matter. We still have a long way to go, but NEW is here to do the work with you.
